This sprawling reservoir offers a wide
variety of outdoor activities, including
fishing, boating, swimming, jet skiing,
waterskiing, sailing, and windsurfing. The
dangerously fierce wind conditions, the
widespread distance between shorelines, and
the sixty-five miles of shoreline are
special factors you will need to take into
careful consideration when paddling on this
desolate reservoir.
The two most scenic arms on the reservoir,
located by the Dinosaur Point Road boat
launch on the northwestern shore, are more
preferable for novice paddlers. All boats
must travel in a counterclockwise direction
(including kayaks, canoes, and paddle
boards). The Romero Visitors Center is open
daily except on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
San Luis Reservoir State Recreation Area is
noted for boating, board sailing, camping,
and picnicking. But it’s kayak anglers who
find the reservoir the most inviting.
Striped bass draw the majority of
anglers to San Luis Reservoir, but catfish
provide the best fishing opportunities in
the spring and summer throughout the lake’s
abundant coves.
